Greetings from the humble scribe Merouda Pendray. :-)

I have another little persona challenge for you all.
While there were only a few respondents to the last
one on the Hall, I enjoyed them very much!
Furthermore, although NS hall had some respondents,
the Barony of Caer Anterth's email list had quite a
few, and I want to publicly thank them for playing. I
had fun, and there will be follow-up. ;-)

If you'd like to read the responses from the folks of
CAM, you can always check the archives at
http://list.minstrel.com/public/cam/2007-February/subject.html

Now, on to the next:

At the Tournement of Chivalry, a number of ladies,
including myself, set up a little area where we
decorated within the limits of our ability to do so,
placed out a travelling lunch, and sat down to talk
and work at our various handwork projects. During the
day, the following exchange took place:

Person A: I'll be right back, I need to go outside and
call my husband with my cell.

Person B: Okay... I like it much better when people
just say "cell phone." Some things are just modern and
should be called what they are.

Merouda: I agree, and I dislike "farspeaker" and all
that, but why not just talk around the mundane? Why
not just say "Excuse me, I need to step outside to
speak to my lord husband."?

So, here is my challenge to you: Everyday, we do 21st
century things that really do not differ from what our
ancestors did, at least, in terms of the action's
intent. When we are standing around talking about them
at a business meeting, our language doesn't really
matter. However, at events, it adds to the ambiance if
we consider what we say. So, one way to think about
life for your persona is to consider how he or she
might have expressed that same action. Thus, as you go
through your day, I challenge you to consider how you
might phrase some modern action. You can "Call someone
on your cell phone," or you can "Speak privately to
your servant."

All you need send back is one (or more, if you like!)
phrase that's been reworded to allow you to "talk
around the mundane." No made up words, no SCAisms
(smalls, dragons, farspeakers), no fancy language, no
high falutin' iambic pentameter, just modern English
used in an alternate expression. :-) I'll start:

Instead of "Sending an email to the NS mail list," I
am "Making an announcement in the Northshield Hall."

Instead of saying "I'll email you" I will say "I'll
send you a missive."

This one is easier, so I hope to see lots of answers!
Puuhhhhhhleaze play with me. ;-) I look forward to
your responses!

Merouda, ever your servant.
